Hello, I have been tossing around the idea of raising chickens for some time now but dh has always been against it " until we had our own land " but for some reason he all of a sudden gave in and we grabbed the last three chicks at the store!!!. This was an impressive turn around for him since we live in an rv and still don't own our own land. But like it or not we are the proud parents of three little golden sex link chicks. I'm not sure how old they are but my kids already love them. My 6 year old son, who loves frozen, named two Anna and Elsa but we haven't decided on a name for the third yet (originally we were only going to get two but i was not leaving one baby chick in the store all by herself).
I really am a little out of my element here since i don't know a huge amount about chickens but i have been reading up. I only had three chicks for 7 hours and already I am wishing we owned our own land so I can expand our little flock. Nice meeting you all!!

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Looks like a chicken addiction in the making. Good luck with your mini flock. It's always good when the whole family gets involved. BTM if you go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum, you can locate and post on your state thread. A great way to meet chickeners in your area and learn how they tough out the HOT weather.

Hi :welcome
Glad you could join the flock! Raising chicks can be a bit daunting but also very rewarding. Here is the raising chicks section of the learnng centre https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-and-raising-chicks

It has some great articles on getting started with them. Be sure to ask any questions you may have, everyone here to help. Adding more to your flock can become quite addictive and the chicken math just takes over!! Enjoy BYC :frow

I'm glad you joined us.

I suggest looking at the Learning Center to learn more about raising chicks and keeping chickens: Learning Center Articles Good luck with your chicks! Gold Sex-Links should be very good layers (300+ eggs per year) and quite docile.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. Raising chickens is a great experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our hens and names them after Disney Princesses (we have an Elsa and Anna in our flock as well).) Golden Sex Link is one of many labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, which are produced by crossing a red gene rooster with a silver gene hen. Not only can the offspring be sexed by color at hatching, but they are egg laying machines, outlaying either parent breed. It's one of the interesting quirks of hybridization. You should get loads of eggs from those 3 girls. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Golden Sex Link chicks.
