New from Pinedale, WY

Hello and
welcome-byc.gif
! Please ask any questions you may have, we're happy to help.

Thanks everybody, and yes, I've already found someone who lives in here WY north of me, and she is already being very helpful. Great site! And thanks for the info on the panel heater issue. I think I may try to find a panel heater with a lower wattage rating. I'm also thinking of using canvas tarp to cover one side from the wind.

One more question. Maybe I need to find the thread on Orpingtons, but does anyone know what are the lowest temperatures Orpys can handle, and still keep laying eggs? I know they are cold weather birds, but just curious as to how low of temps have been known to thrive in?

I keep Orps and they are pretty cold hardy. But all birds do get cold in brutally cold temps. We saw a couple days of -30 a couple years ago and everybody made it through with flying colors, however I did have the lamps going 24 hours a day until the temp returned to normal. We regularly get down to zero at night and just below and my birds do just fine with just the small panel heater on. I rarely if ever use heat lamps at night. I think if you keep chatting on your state thread and ask if anyone owns orps there too and maybe they can help you out with more info.

Stay warm up there!! :)
