Hey, and welcome! Check out the nor cal thread you can see some of your neighbors coops etc. # chickens, while you will want to clean up after them, are not messy. you will need to buy them feed, spent grain iirc is not enough.
3 chickens in a large enough coop should not be messy. I would recomend a tractor of you have a lawn so they can also mow the lawn for you and be useful and healthy. Hope to see you around!
