(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Brand new, don’t have any yet, trying (unsuccessfully) to find more about the ordinances in my city, Slidell, LA. Moved here a few years ago. Have always wanted chickens, though!!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None yet but I’d love to have between 4 and 6.

(3) What breeds do you have?
None, still researching. Definitely want a silky named Tina Turner, though (she has awesome hair).

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google University

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Woodworking, gardening, cooking, and herding cats.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Mom of Wimpy Dog, Crazy Cat, Ms. Toes, a tiny architect, a resistant engineer, and wife to a man in a really “crappy” business.

Greetings and welcome to BYC! So glad you joined us. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me :old will never remember from this post title & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

Lol welcome from lacombe. As far as I know no ordinance against chickens. Not to say if someone complains they won't make you get rid of them it is slidell. Usually if you can't find anything it's a good sign. You're in city limits?

Hi from Lacombe, LA. I am looking to buy some chickens. I live in the country, and have 5 acres and no neighbors to speak of. There is an existing chicken pen/cage the size of a large rectangular pool. The previous owners father raised fighting cocks, back in the day. My son in FL just got a bunch of chickens, so it got me to thinking that I would like to raise some again. If anyone knows where i can purchase some, I would appreciate it.
