We just bought some acres and are brand new to chickens! Bought 4 yesterday. 2 Australarps (sp?) and 2 Barred Rock. The hubs wants more. I think some Buff Orpington and White Leghorn. We also have three kids that homeschool. This is going to be a great adventure!

Greetings from Kansas, SealFam5and :welcome! Great to have you in our community. Nice breeds you have there. Three are brown egg layers but the Lehorns will lay white. Also, if it matters to you, Leghorns are a little on the jumpy and noisy side of the chicken spectrum. Great layers, though. If you'd like to do some poultry research, the many articles of the Learning Center are awesome: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
And you can chat with some of your poultry owning neighbors in your state thread in this link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread
Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC! :)

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some great starting points, I will just wish you and your family [featheries included] all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
