A friend found a baby goose in traffic and brought it home. Since she had three cats and it was Saturday, she asked us to look after it until she found someone or somewhere to take it. So far we've found nothing and the goose is bonding plus my husband and I have researched things and I don't think we could give Punky up (I named the goose after a character in a book I read about, it was a real person living in 1941 and they had my last name so I thought to name the goose this). We've been feeding it grass until we get our chicken feed order from Amazon...though I had some corn grits in the home I'm nervous to give our baby that. My husband loves pets and spends tons of time with animals but initially didn't like the animal because he saw it eat it's own poop. We had a discussion and I helped him realize it's a baby and probably doesn't know better yet...plus it may have been hungry? So my husband made sure it had plenty of grass. If anyone has tips for babies, notes on feed for a goose plus...do geese learn to poop in certain places or willing always be cleaning up poop drops...can it wear a diaper? Plus the baby smells bad...not very bad but a little like mild fish? I hope it's healthy but it seems to be...and I love the chirping from it plus it seems to be very quiet at night. The goose didn't sleep with us, we have it in it's own playpen...I guess it's just a learning process and getting used to things.

Are you keeping it indoors? Is that why you want to wear a diaper if you keep it outside and it poops outside the rain will melt it away or you can hose it down. It will dissolve and fertilize your lawn.
What breed of goose is it? Can you share a picture? I wonder how old it is ? If you give it a tub or small pool of water or to swim in, it will clean itself and it should never smell bad . They are very good at cleaning themselves, but if it’s still a tiny baby, you can’t leave it in water very long . In fact, if it’s a tiny baby, it needs to be in a warm temperature depending on how many weeks old it is and where you liveWelcome to BYC.

Hello 😀

That's so good of you to keep this goose. Hopefully you can find some outdoor housing nearby your home soon and maybe a playmate to keep it company.
:welcome

As @DobieLover has suggested.
That goose will need proper water fowl feed, maybe from amazon
But for now lettuce kale some cooked unsalted and raw vegetables.

Welcome to BYC. I don't know anything about ducks, but you are cutting grass for it, I'm not sure thats advisable. It may cause crop problems. (That may be what you are smelling.)
If you have a tractor supply or a similar store nearby, you should get appropriate feed immediately.
Please post a picture so we know how old it is, and can give you better advice.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

We got two ducks sort of dumped on us and were tickled when we read our bag of Kalmbach's Flock Maker that it's completely balanced for ducks and geese. I'm sure there are others, but you have to make sure it's meant also for ducks/geese.
