So we are allowed 11 Chicken/rabbits one daughter wants a bunny and I'd like to leave open 2 spaces in case the girls decide to do 4h with some hens. So all that being said...

I've been looking at breeds and we are wanting a somewhat colorful egg basket so this is what I have so far on the want list

2 Plymouth Rock
2 Ameraucana
2 Barnevelder

and trying to decide between:

Black Australorp, Rhode Island Reds and Sussex. I originally thought about Faverolles but worried they'd get picked on. Any input on the types I've picked out on the want list and any suggestions for filling out the rest of our ladies? I did consider Leghorns, but read they can be aggressive, any thoughts on that with the above "want list"?

It would help to know if your in a cold state or not some breeds do better in cold weather. I like Black Aust. Silver laced Wyanadotte, Barred Rock and Brown leghorns( mine are not mean at all). A nice dark egg layer would be a Wellsummer or any of the Marans

If you buy your chickens from Murray McMurray Hatchery they have a rainbow layer assortment. Good price, different colored eggs, and you can be surprised by what you get. Good Luck!!!! Welcome!!!

I'm in western Oregon, we don't get much if any snow, but we get lots of rain Nov. through April. We do have some days below freezing but usually only at night during the winter. I'll look into the Wellsummer and Marans. Thanks for the suggstions!

Thanks for the suggestion of Murray McMurray Hatchery. I'll look them up! That might be fun.
