HELLO EVERYONE,

FOUR DAYS AGO WE BROUGHT A NEW GIRL TO OUR ALREADY ESTABLISHED FLOCK... SHE IS A 15 WEEK OLD BARNAVELDER, HOWEVER SHE IS WILD!! HAVE TRIED HANDLING HER BUT SHE HATES IT, CRIES AND FLAPS, SHE JUMPED ON A SIX FOOT FENCE AND ENDED IN THE NEIGHBOURS GARDEN, POOR THING, ANYONE ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW WE CAN HELP HER ADJUST AND SETTLE IN HER LOVELY NEW HOME [;

Hi and welcome to BYC. I'd suggest not trying to handle her for the time being. There are a number of approaches you may wish to consider in terms of integrating her into the flock - or simply cherry pick bits from each approach that you feel will suit your set-up. Here are some:

It's likely to be a rather stressful time for her, but I'm sure she will do just fine.

Good luck

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
