New Goats *PICS!*

well...one thing you could possible look into is artificial insemination, either the people you bought the does from or the ones that have the buck could possible know how to do it and could help you and since you have 3 does you could have the buck get all 3 in heat while they are separated but only let him do his duty on 1 or 2 and the others could be AI...always something to look into or contact your local vet, if its a large animal vet they should be able to help you with that and if not should be able to point you in the right direction. im mentioning this because the only buck available to you is black and white but you didnt mention how the dairy characteristics in his line are...with AI you pretty have have unlimited color and characteristics available its one of the easiest ways to make your herd better without spending oddles of money

billy's are not that bad...... I have 2 nigerian bucks and a mini nubian buck..... as someone else said the nigerian teats are okay as long as they are bred for milking. I started out only wanting nigerians as i figured they would be easier to handle with their size. Then I found the mini nubians and their teats seem to be much better than on the nigerians and they are supposed to give more milk but I don't know yet as mine were just bred this fall,
we got our first 2 before housing or fences as the price was also right so they lived in our basement from about 6wks - 3mos. and then they lived in the trailer we have to haul girlscout equipment until we got their pen and house built. We let them run looose or tied them in the begining and even now they get let out as much as possible to run around and they never go anywhere and they stay together for the most part. Every now and then one will get distracted eating and get seperated and the other ones will call it till it comes or go find the missing one.
There is no reason you can't hire a stud. If you are worried about diseases go to someone who has tested for all that and have the papers to prove it. I refuse to tag my goats on principal but the ones I bought with tags are sitting on my desk as they hadn't put them on yet and I don't plan on it.

There is something cool to know. That is one thing I will have to remember when I am buying bucks. I plan to use our males that we have as brush goats to clear the new pasture for horses when we move. So Having them really does not bother me, I have never had a problem with them. They are a mix of pets, breeding needs and weed wackers I guess lol

But the color tip is something that will help point my purchases from now. Well that and who is just plain a sweet heart.

I Hate tags! all goats that go through our local auction have to have tags. And every week 4-6 tags which is a small number for the amount of goats they sell in a day I realize get their tags torn out before or during the sale. There is nothing sadder then seeing a beautiful Nubian with it's gorgous long ear torn in half cause the tag got snagged somewhere.

And I have to admit I call them what ever the Amish have when I talked to them that week. I guess you can call it a habit.
