new grit looks different

I usually buy my grit at the Tractor Supply Store. This time they had a new package, and it was cheaper, so I bought it. But the grit is brown. I'm used to granite being grey. Is there brown granite out there??
And while I have you here.........I only have 7 hens left. I put out about a cup of grit every few days, and its gone all the time. Isn't that alot of grit for them? they aren't free range.
I can't really see it on the floor of the coop, so I'm assuming they're ingesting it all. I suppose they know what they're doing.

Granite can be just about any color. I have a 18 yard pile of orange gravel, which was supposed to be pink gravel.

My 12 birds go in spurts with the consumption of grit. Sometimes it seems like a large amount other times not.

I would not worry about it.
