New guy here. Need help on coop

Found a guy locally that said he would build this for pretty cheap. It’s 4x8 but I’m sure there’s some modifications that would improve it. I’m suppose to meet with him and his dad today to discuss plans and a price. Can someone tell me what needs to change ?
I like this size. View attachment 2581486View attachment 2581487View attachment 2581488View attachment 2581489View attachment 2581490
Okay sorry to go backwards, but I like a lot of things about this one. Roost is good, you could get by with 2 nest boxes.( I don't really care for the boxes next to roost bars anyway, they'd have to walk on poop to get into those .) It looks solid from pics. I don't think anyone would recommend a wire floor though. My hens are 8 months old now and their poop is about 1-2"around so it will get caught on the wire floor. If there was a hinged door at back side by roost that might make clean up easier under roosts .Its just some suggestions for you think about when planning.

Trying to find someone that can just build the house and I’ll design the inside like I want it. Want something with similar design of the Woods coop bc it’s really humid here in South Ga and will stay in the high 90s a good bit. Looking for an open front with lots of ventilation.

Great . Hoped we all helped and didn't overwhelm you. It won't be perfect, there will be things you'll wish you could change. But it's more about learning the things one doesn't know until you actually have chickens. ( like how those slide out drawers look good in store but aren't tall enough for their adult poo) Anyway have fun, enjoy you chicks once you get them , learn lots about them . They do become like pets with small flocks. Enjoy the adventure and God Bless enjoy this week 💞.

Thank you for your kind words. I’m on a similar forum for Bonsai trees and y’all are sooo helpful and kind in comparison.

Thoughts?

Thoughts?

At 5x8 there would be waste on the sheet goods. I would go 6x8 to make better use of the sheet goods. At 6x8 it would be the same size as my smaller walk in.

Basically a 4x8 sheet of siding would end up with 3' cut off and unused to get the single additional foot to make a 5' end.

The same waste would occur with the flooring. 3'x8' of waste.

Yes some of that could be (should be) used on nest boxes if building them external and maybe on the short end around the mesh window.

While I like the idea of the big mesh window driving rain would make me want a way to close it if needed.

I read in Woods coop design that if you use 1/4 in hardware cloth that rain isn’t that big of a deal. I could Be wrong. Any adjustments besides size? It’s hot down here so I’m trying to have as much as an open air coop as I can

I would draw it to scale so that 4 squares is one foot on the drawings.

Each nest should be at least 12" wide and 14" or more front to back with a minimum height inside of 14".

I like the idea of a woods coop, I really do. I am just not sure how on earth they stay dry inside.

Woods coop regulates winter air movement by creating an air cushion,
this is specifically controlled by proportions of coop,
the open front being open and all other openings being closed.
Doubt it's really an appropriate design in a hot climate.
