No you dont need to go through the trouble of white washing inside. I bought my chickens from babys in July of 07 then December 17ish I found my first egg. It was sooooo egggciting. Anyways You will here alot of people say they need so much daylite or light so many hours a day and I dont do any of that extra stuff. My husband built me a beautiful coop with fenced in run. so I prop open the door so they can go in and out and its kind of dark most of the time inside where they lay there eggs in the yucky weather and it doesnt hurt the laying of eggs. It does slow down the egg laying in the winter but I am getting so many right now but it is turning nice out. Good Luck with your new little animal family.
