I'm originally from Smith Valley Nevada. Welcome partner. My suggestion to you is if you build a chicken coop don't pay much attention to what they suggest in these books and websites. The best design is better called a chicken cote rather than a chicken coop. It looks a bunch like an outhouse as it is tall as possible with a high peaked roof.
Main difference is that it's rectangular rather than square. Hang shade cloth under the perches to catch the manure so they aren't walking in it and contaminating the nest boxes and perches with it. You can put the broilers in a coop no problem cause they won't live long but if you want your birds to live long healthy lives give them plenty of height to perch up in and good air ventilation- don't confine them too close to the ground as that's a recipe for predator headaches and chronically sick birds.
