Hi my name is Larry, I'm married 12 years, had chickens about 12 years ago before getting married. I thought I had to get rid of them, and gave them away, My worst idea ever. Still married to the same woman, and just got 4 pullets in mid April from Attwoods. Built them a coop with my awful carpentry skills, They should start laying some eggs soon. It's Sunday morning and just ran across this site, and thought I would join. I'm also trying to finish my coop, and was looking for ideas on how to make a leak proof lid for the nest box.

glad you have decided to join us and congrats on getting another flock.

There have been a number of thread discussions on leak proof nest boxes, search the forums for some great solutions.

If you have already built or designed the nests, a pic, drawing or description can get an answer.

I have external nests with a lid that lifts. The nest box itself out further than the overhang of the coop roof and the original lid of the nests had no overhang at all. So started getting some drips inside with heavy rains. Searched the forums and found loads of ideas. But decided to stick with my original plan, I used liquid nails and attached a larger nest box cover and that solved my issue.

Glad you could join the flock! Lovely to hear you have got back into keeping chickens. I'm sure you must have missed it very much. Good luck in getting those first eggs soon, it always seems to take an age waiting for those first ones. Sunflour has left you some great advice on your nest boxes.
