Hello everyone!
I have lurked here on and off for a while, and have finally decided to join. I have learned a lot already and now would like to join the conversation.

I have always wanted chickens and finally, in June, we pulled the trigger on 5 barred rock pullets.
I sectioned off a 4x10 room in the shed for the hen house, and put up a 10x12 run out the back.

It has been a fun family project and we are all excited to collect eggs here in a few months. It is very fun caring for, and watching how fast they grow. We are already talking about expanding the flock by 5 or ?? in the spring.

Thanks for having me. Excited to be here!

Welcome!

Since you got a late start with the pullets, the first egg will likely be delayed a bit. Hopefully they will still start laying for you but it might take until spring. Low light levels in late fall and winter does this

Thank you on the input, I am thinking about adding supplemental solar powered light inside the coop for when the days get shorter to help with egg production.
