New Hampshire Breed Thread

Pics
Hi, I just got 5 New Hampshire's 2 roosters and 3 hens. The reason why I got etxra roosters was in case one was to die I would still be able to breed out of them. I just got them 2 days ago at a show in Wisconsin. I've been interested in this breed and finally got some.

. . . . . and you have got some nice ones. I have seen alot of these German strain NHs around lately. I wonder who will stick with them, and how much influence they will have on the breed in the long run. I like seeing the good looking New Hampshires. I spent alot of time trying to find good ones. I like seeing the interest in them. I would like to know if anyone is going to try working with them, and if so . . . What do they intend to work on? I would also like to see if there is any good "American" NHs out there. Thank You for sharing the pictures.

I belive the hen in front is American they were toe punched so I'll have to check their toes latter.

I'd say its more likely the girl in the back left as the other two have the more golden hackle and that's one of the things in ? on these German bred NH some are back crossing onto good American stock(when found) to darken this area a bit as the European standard and the APA standard aren't quite in the same ball park on the colors on the NH esp. in the female area. I believe this is accurate You may want to delve off a little deeper than by just what I post and see if so. interested

Jeff

I bought a 'brown egg layer assortment' from My Pet Chicken in Oct 2012 and had a difficult time trying to figure out what breed these chicks were. I am pleased to discover they are New Hampshires. If not for the accidental roo (Red) I may not have figured it out! Anyway here are pics of them at various ages.

A few days old, perhaps 1 week

2 or 3 week old New Hampshires

Red (rooster) 4 weeks (or so)

Today @ 11 1/2 weeks. They are so pretty. The pullet usually has such a gentle look in her eyes (can't really see it here) and Red is very inquisitive, talkative, and sweet.
