New Hampshire - LIVE FREE or DIE

I will try to contact my local rep tomorrow and I am going to a selectmen meeting tomorrow night as well , I already have the hardest selectman asking to see a real funky looking chicken and the only funky chicken that I have is a silkie but he has probaly never seen one . LOL So it starts at home and then goes from there.

yes anything or anyone to get the ball rolling
education is the key to getting this resolved, time to get the officials educated to our needs as well.

Just got this from some one who wants to show in NH from out of state, some good information.

Poultry coming into NH from out of state must have been tested negative within the last year for Avian Influenza and Salmonella Pullorum. All birds over 5 months (20 weeks) other than webbed footed birds have to be tested for both diseases and a certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI) must be done. You can certainly use your own bands as long as each bird is identified and listed on the CVI. Once the testing is negative, you can call this office at the number below and I can give you an entry permit number to put on the CVI for importation into NH.

For Fairs & Shows the CVI is good for the Fair & Show season. For Chicken Swaps the CVIs are only good for 30 days and one specific address - which would be the address where the chicken swap is going to take place. A permit is required for both events.

This is the link to the import rules for NH. http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rules/state_agencies/agr2100.html The first few rules state the requirements for CVIs and permits and what is required for both - also Poultry is listed under Agr 2114.

Yes, Maine does have the 6 chicks until 8 weeks of age law and after that you can sell a single bird. From what we have also been told by our State poultry guy is this only applies to chicks sold at auctions, swaps, shows, etc., if you were to sell these from your private home that rule does not apply.

Just found this thread, I know I'm slow

I am confused so In NH we have to have a permit to have a Chicken Swap ? is that correct ? in addition to having the birds tested and a poultry license

So the NH 12 chick rule is 4 weeks?

i believe its 12 chicks or over 4 weeks old, if they are older than 4 weeks they can be sold in less lots. someone, anyone, am i right??

Here is my proposed change to the NH LAW {the number from 12 to 6 and the section at bottom in brackets}

Anyone have thoughts or ideas on it?

NH RSA 437:15
Sale or Gift of Small Quantities – Chicks, ducklings, goslings, and rabbits younger than 4 weeks of age shall not be sold or offered for sale; raffled; or offered or given as a prize, premium, or advertising device, in quantity of less than {6} birds or animals to an individual person, {unless that person is adding a bird/birds to an existing flock}.
