I allways clip the wings, but not a severe clip, so they can get a lift ino low branches when I first put new birds outside. i would clip them, pen them where you want them to go at night and let 'em out the next day. Hopefully they will go back in! let us know what you do and how it works out!

OK, call me crazy, but I have 3 hens that are laying...they now have 2 piles of eggs in the coop. Is it normal for 2 of them at a time to be setting while the other free ranges the yard with the other chickens and then they keep switching off???? It is so funny to look in and see them laying on the eggs, then they are in the yard and i go look and another has swapped her nest for a stroll and so on....

Hahahaha, hey you have team work going on in there. LOL
I am not sure on that one, usally the hen that is sitting will get very angry with others if they go near the eggs.

That is what I thought too! But they are all sharing the nest and the setting! It will be something if they start to hatch!!!

ducks and turkeys often share a nest.Sometimes chickens will also.
it wont happen everytime but be thankful they are , there is a better hatch ratio when 2 sit, Plus add the protective factor in also. more sets of eyes.

Thats what my two hens were doing. Then one really went broody and wouldn't get off the nest. The other hen made a new nest layed a bunch of eggs and went broody. Her eggs are due to hatch in 3 or 4 days. The other hens five chicks are doing great!

Oh boy! did my chickens get a treat today and loved it. I cut the end of a watermelon off and put it down for them. They were having a blast peckin away at it and then drinking the cold juice! It was so funny watching them approach it and clucking away like it was a predator or something! I should have video taped it!
