Yes, if just the head is gone it was most likely a skunk

hmmm wow, i know fishers and weasles and racoons do that, but that is good news to that about the skunks. but not good news when it does happen.

OMG! I was just there and admiring the silkie, she was a beautiful bird.
I am so sorry this has happened. time to lock them up for the days ahead till you can get the SOB.
most likely Juvinal coon helped its self to a free meal. Might just be away from the mother recently and is llooking for the quick easy meal, Time to set traps and eliminate it.
if You need hav-a-hart let me know and I will bring them over.

Something got into one of my portable pens and took all 3 birds and left only pieces of wings. But there was a musty smell like ferret but much stronger. I read the Predator and Pest thread on BYC all the time because of my paranoia of bugs on my chickens! Don't ask me why, guess I like to itch all the time! haha, but anyway, all the members there said the musty smell can come from a fox, and the way that coop pen was thrashed around, it had to be a fox or a very big skunk!! The cage was literally bounced all over the place!

Mink will do the same thing, chase teh chickens around and around and the more they bounce and bash up against the cage, it can walk it everywhere and totally destroy it themsleves trying to get away.

Mink will also leave a musky smell also.

Would the mink take all 3 chickens and just leave a few pieces of the wings?? I was so sick when I saw that and the blood was everywhere and the smell was awefull!
