New Hampshire Reds Question

I was told that Edgar Mongold had some of the best. I emailed him and he longer has them. He referred me to:

David Johnston out of Rome, GA. (706) 295-2915 I phoned a week ago and left a message, but have not heard back from him.

I emailed Doug Eckers from Indiana today they said he raised a 100 this year of the new hampshires he got from Germany . He should have a few pullets laying around to share with a special lady in Mo. Now got to see if he will part with them and how we can get them to her house.

I also talked today with my contact in Michigan and he told me Tim Bowles of Ohio has New Hampshire. He is a very good breeder and the one who knows where most chickens are in the mid west.

I talked to Frank Good Fellow today on the phone from Canada and he says there are no New Hampshires worth a hoot up there.

I did get a welcome supprise he is going to enter a trio of Columbian Plymouth Rock at the Ohio National and I should be able to get them a one way ticket to North Carolina for Yard full of Rocks.

Will be a nice Christmas present for him as he wants so badly to work with this breed.

Hope this helps some of you. I still plan to get some new Hampshire eggs this spring from Kansas. This strain is about 30 years old. Then when I get them going I will share them with anyone who wants this old breed.

I also have some Rhode Island Reds those dark kind coming to me in young breeders and eggs. Will be able to provide in a year or so the old Mohawk line that I use to raise 8 years ago.

Wow I've looked all over and I know Bob posted the weights of growing out New Hampshires but I can't find it I weighed mine today hatched 7/14 the only roo weighs in at 4lbs and 3 ozs 2 pullets weighed the same 3lbs 4 ozs and the 4th girl was 3lbs and 4 ozs the roo is 1oz behind a very nice Silver Penciled Rock. I sure hope I can find a better roo Walt said he'd help me find one just wondering on the weight if it's even close to what size they should be...

I just found this thread and I am excited since I really want to focus on the NH breeding this next year!
I want to learn all I can about the breed standards and where to get some nice hens. I have two roosters that I think are pretty good, but I want to know more and plan to send a pix to this board and have them critiqued. Just need to figure out how to get the pix on here..........advice?
I am from NW Ohio and would like to have some leads by next spring to try to get some NICE stock.
I see Bob is here - yippee - I think he is one of the most knowledgable poultry people around!

Hunt down Doug Echers from Indiana. Try to get some of his culls. They are the best flock in the USA. If he sold some birds to some one hunt them down and try to get some eggs from this guy next year There are not any good strains left in the country with color.

I am going to try to get some eggs from Frank Reese this March. I will hatch them up and try to pout some breeding pens togeather for next year. Then share these birds with you guys who will take the tourch to get this old heritage line of chickens back on track again. They are as good as Rhode Island Reds as a dual purpose bird. If you use the breeding up method of breeding in five years you will have a good strain and a good show bird as well. Secret to this project is PASSHION. bob

Then share with us his name as a breeder. Also, what show was this. It may be the same gene pool that is is Indiana. We will try to see if he can help us in the USA. bob
