How long should we leave newly hatched chicks in incubator and how long should we leave chicks in brooder before moving them outdoors

Chicks have a three day supply of nutreants in their little bellies that is the last thing that happens before the egg produces the new offspring ...



I keep my chick's in the brooder from 3 week to 6 weeks it really depends on the weather outside .....

The brooder can handle more the one type at a time .....







The best incubator and brooder is the momma ......






Inside the brooder you need to provide feed water heat






And plenty of play room ....

3 week old chicks outside in the introduction cage .......

By 6 to 8 weeks out in the yard with the troops ....

Hello and Welcome To BYC! You can leave newly hatched chicks in the incubator for a couple of days, I like to get them out about every 24 hours, other people go longer. Here is a really nice article on hatching eggs you might like. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101 You might like to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping you'll find helpful. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center Chicks are generally pretty much feathered at six weeks and don't need extra heat unless it is really cold. So when you can take chicks out of the brooder into the coop depends on the temperature, if you can give them the temperature they need in the coop ... if it is warm where you are, especially at night, or you can put a heat lamp etc for them in the coop, you can put them out sooner.

Welcome from the Ocean State! They should stay in the brooder until fully feathered. About 4 weeks for most breeds.

Thanks for all info these are game chicks got perfect pair mom and pop so anxious how babies going to look. Got 19 eggs in incubator one hatched and one with its head out trying to come on out

Kelsie has given you some great advise. I like to get them out by 24 hours or earlier if I can. If anything is pipping and it has been 24 hours and chicks need out, I will mist the eggs well to help them from drying out.
