So we have had some chick hatch from our first hatching. We have had some problems.

One chick has curly toes (splints going on soon).

One chick was shrink wrapped and has a deformed wing (it looks to have been the reason why it took so long to unzip; not being able to get around well). We are debating a cull on that one. If we don't cull it, we will keep it (if it is a hen) for laying only.

One chick is having an issue that I'm not sure what it is. It's legs look okay to my inexperienced eye; I don't think it's splayed. One wing looks straight and the other one looks normal. And it seems to not be able to keep itself upright. It topples onto it's side or will then roll onto it's back. It seems exhausted. I may splint it's legs anyhow, to see if it is having a leg issue.

Thoughts? And thank you!

The curly toed one hatched about 11am on Saturday. We put chick boots on her and she is doing good. Will take them off and check on her progress after 24hrs and replace if necessary.

The one that kept rolling onto it's side and back hatched Saturday afternoon. The wing looks better (maybe it was just strained upon hatching?). I put a band-aide hobble on that one and she is now sitting up on her belly. Will take it off and check on progress tomorrow as well.

The shrink wrapped one with the deformed wing was hatched about 10am Sunday. After I got the membrane and shell off, I put it back in the incubator to finish drying. After a few hours I took it out and inspected the wing more closely (I didn't want to stress it out too much earlier). It appears the wing is normal, but was "glued" together at the bend by membrane. I washed the chick and used my fingers to gently get it unglued. Loved the hair dryer to fluff dry. I then put it in with the other chicks in the brooder and it seems to be doing fine now.

Here is what the curly toed looks like; this is it's twin.

And this is one with the hobbles.
