New Haven zoning taking woman's chickens away

The biggest problem these days with people is that the media has been portraying farm animals as dirty and disease carrying creatures and any products from these animals needs to be properly processed (sanitized, pastuerised etc) before it can be safely consumed. People spend so much time glued to the tv they believe what is broadcast without question.

DING DING DING! We have a winner!

This morning they had an update and said that they will look into changing the zoning laws to allow hens (no roos). They showed footage of the meeting the previous evening and there was a great turnout of "chicken people." They even mentioned how keeping chickens is a "movement" in the US, how chickens eat bugs and how much better fresh eggs were! It was very positive coverage. VERY encouraging!!!

OH! and they also said how there have been chicken friendly zone changes in NYC, Chicago and other cities.

Whenever the media tries to label chickens and other livestock as "dirty" or "nasty", I think of how people can be just as bad, if not worse. For instance, DH has a friend that worked for a sprinkler company and he was called to do a job at a posh suburb outside of Nashville. Imagine a fine, fancy home on the outside, but the living room was littered with pizza boxes, trash, and human poop. DH didn't bother to ask about the rest of the house, ugh.

The absolute hopocrisy of New Haven not allowing chickens amazes me.
New Haven is a big ghetto with a few colleges, including Yale, and one or two
rich neighborhoods. I grew up on the outskirts and went to college there.
I'm not even sure why anyone would want to live there with so many wonderful
little towns all around it, most of which allow chickens.

The media here loves stories like this. She'll get to keep her chickens.

Thanks for the compliments folks. But you should know my comments are well rehearsed. I have spent 9 years dealing with restrictive animal legislation across Canada on levels ranging from civic to federal and dealing with nut bar extremists that feel none of us should raise any type of animals for any reason.
