new hen has deformed feet

My guess is that it could be scaley leg mites and because she is a show bird, has been kept caged. Vaseline the legs, and trim the nails. Freedom from a cage and dirt to scratch at will help her get her nails back into shape. She may also be an old hen but most still have relatively smoother legs.

Yeah that looks like scaly leg mites. According to Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens coating the legs with petroleum jelly is the traditional treatment.
