Hello all, I am new to this forum and new to keeping chicken. I got my very first 3 warren about 1 week ago. They were POL and one started laying 2 days later, the second started after 3 further days.

I am worried about one of them (not sure if she is a layer or not). She hardly eats anything, stays inside the coop most of the time. When I let them all out of the run, she just keeps following me around and keeps trying to explain her ache to me but unfortunately I don't speak hennish so ...

I also notice that the tip of the upper beat of all hens is broken off about 2 millimeters. Should I be worried? Or is this normal.

Thanks for taking the time.

Alisha

The upper beak thing is "beak clipping" - the removal of the sharp point portion of the beak to reduce damage to other birds from pecking, etc - not all chicken keepers use it. It's very common in situations where the birds will be kept in large, tightly housed groups (ie commercial) to cut down on injury/death.

Thanks for your answer Ol Gray. Does the beak regrow?
