New Hen strange place to lay eggs

I have two new Buf Orphington's and both will only lay eggs on top of the laying boxes in the coop. I have put up ramps for them to walk up to the laying boxes but they just want to lay the eggs on TOP of the boxes what can I do?

Are the top of your nesting boxes flat? I made a steep slope on the top of my boxes that way they can't roost and poop on them either. And I have a roost right in front of the boxes. They like to roost close to their nest when they have eggs, maybe they sit on top because they can roost there too.

I see!! yes the space above the nesting boxes is flat; I will have to fix this. Some of the eggs have actually rolled off!
