new hens in the Virgin Islands

I wouldn't advise a cement floor if they are always in there. 1. Chickens love to eat grass. 2. Chickens love to scratch in the dirt. 3. You will have to clean it constantly and the smell will be AWFUL!!

You might want to research the deep litter method.

I plan on having them free range, we have a lot of land so they should be happy campers. How long does it take them to learn that the coop is their home at night and not to wander off?
Almost finished the coop in one day! will post pictures when its done~ hopefully tomorrow. Just have to put the chicken wire :)

If you lock them in the coop for a few days without letting them out, and then let them out, this teaches them that this is home and a safe place to come home to roost. You can also lure them back in with goodies at night. I do this. I never trust my birds to all come in at once and I like to get them all closed in at one time. :)
