I have a prefab coop so I’m not sure I have room for a crate in there. Can see this is to be easy. I might have to rethink getting new hens.

Nope, not easy in smaller space.
Good that you are rethinking it.
Might need to build a bigger coop and run,
use the prefab for quarantine and/or part of integration scheme.
