Picked up 7 new laying hens (due to owner moving). Just curious on what I have. I guessed on a few and others I have literally no idea. I did see the “Olive Egger” lay a mint green egg. Can anyone help me figure these out?? TIA

1. Red Sex-Link
2. Blue Australorp
3. Does this bird have feathered feet? Probably a Australorp mix.
4. Mix
5. Another mix - possibly with a Lavender Orpington.
6. Leghorn.
7 Easter Egger. This birds beak needs a trim.
2. Is laying almost chocolate looking colored eggs so that’s what made me think Maran!

3. Does not have feathered feet!

5. I was thinking something with an Orpington!

7. Thank you! I was wondering why it looked so pointy! Still new to chickens so I didn’t know about trimming their beaks!

Possibly a Blue Copper Maran then if it is laying dark chocolate eggs. Three is a Black Australorp as you say it does not have feathered feet.

To trim her beak use nail clippers or nail scissors (if you have them, otherwise use paper scissors, but make sure they are not blunt and be careful!). Best to do a little bit each day for cases like this, spread it out over a period of time. Be sure to have a clean tissue or paper towel nearby in case it does bleed. Over a few days cut the top beak so that it hangs a little bit over the bottom beak, just how your other chickens beaks are like. Hope this helps. Best of luck with all your birds.

Really appreciate it thanks!! I did take a look and where it’s grown over, it’s clear so would it be safe to just cut it all the way back right before the quick (if that’s even what it’s called)
