Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I would focus heavily on learning how to build a proper coop and run. Read up in the Coop & Run Forum. I strongly advise you build a run with a covered roof and offer at least 15 sq feet per bird and use 1/2" hardware cloth with a 2' predator apron to secure them.
I would securely attach the run to the coop. If you do it this way, you can get away with a smaller coop as the birds will simply come off the roost in the morning and go out to the run. You can then keep the food and water in the run and can make the coop a bit smaller at 3 sq ft per bird.
Otherwise, the coop should offer 4 sq ft per bird with as close to 1 sq foot of permanent ventilation and 1 linear foot of roost space per bird. For 5-6 birds, you'd only need 2 nest boxes and they should be positioned lower than the roost space.
Making both the coop and run walk-in size will not only make it much easier for you to work in there but the birds with have flying space.

Welcome.☺️ Great family experience, raising chickens. My children have some funny stories about the ones we had when they were kids; especially one Banty named Henrietta.
Oldest son and family are in Mechanicsburg.
I just started a little flock after more than 30 years of being "chicken-less." You will enjoy BYC.😊
