New Here! A little Duck help?

I have not thought about that Miss Lydia. I dont know if there is a waterfowl rescue near me in Savannah but uhm as for adopting the muscovies, Im not too sure. They are super friendly, and let me pet them the males more so than the females unless I am giving them peas.

There are 3 males down there and about 5 females, 4 females have older ducklings, coming into their adult plumage. One is fairly young Im not sure if she will have eggs soon or what. Can you give me any information about how many times a year they nest? Am I allowed to just take their eggs? Or the ducklings for that matter when they are small and cute?

I was told by my office that they were placed there for "decoration" so, I guess it would be considering I took that injured duckling.

They were placed there for decoration? that blows my mind when in Ocala Fl. they are wanting to kill the muscovies in their parks. I would talk to some one in charge instead of just helping myself, that way you might stay out of jail

but they might let you take some of the ducklings or maybe even adopt some of the females to cut down on population explosion. They are the best ducks, Quiet, friendly as you already know and most of the time very healthy.

they will have mulitple clutches of ducklings in the nesting season, and since you are further down south might nest all year round, my muscovies don't breed in the late fall and winter and the females stop laying in September late and start back in April. Do you have a way to hatch then you might ask about taking some eggs but just remember you will be hatching straight run as it's called you will have boys and girls and won't be able to pick how many of each. And it is Not a good idea to put unwanted domesticated ducks out in parks or anywhere else. So it's uop to you, you might find a water fowl rescue and be able to adopt or you might be able to give a good home to some of those Muscovies, your desicion. good luck. and please keep us informed about it all and what you decide. Thanks.

Well if they are nesting all year round then yes I will gladly move some of the eggs and I dont mind males or females really. I wont take that many though, that way when I visit my parents in December they can take a few as well. Now to overcome my fear of the small wooded area where I think they may nest

Thanks for all the help and information though! Oh and as for the decoration thing I am not sure. Apparently they have been there awhile though and the cats and foxes cull the population. Makes me sad for all the little ducklings around there.
