Some chicken breeds known for being friendly include Orpingtons, Sussex, Silkies, Plymouth Rocks, Cochins, etc. I've found that my Easter Eggers are my friendliest chickens, but EEs temperaments can vary greatly due to the fact that they aren't an actual breed. Of course, every chicken will have a unique personality no matter what breed it is. Like others have said, spend lots of time with the chicks and they will most likely be very friendly birds.

Welcome to BYC! For younger kids I would suggest silkies. They are one of the sweetest breeds of chicken out there and are sooooo cute!
