Hello all I just joined today. The chicken coop and chickens (not coming for a bit yet) are my birthday present from my husband this year. I have wanted chickens for years and spent most of my childhood begging my parents for chickens so I am beyond excited.
We plan to get a dozen chicks in the beginning of May, probably barred rocks at this point from the local farm store. Next year we will probably add a few more in a different breed, eventually our goal is to build up a small assortment of chickens for the girls to show in 4-H (my oldest just joined as a clover so we have a few years before she can really begin to show). We have three girls (5 1/2, 2 1/2 and 9 months) and a dog. Beyond chickens I am an avid knitter and sell my work online.
Oh and my 2 1/2 year old calls chickens cluck clucks -- we've tried and tried and she won't call them chickens so we tend to call them clucks now as well
