Hi! I live in Florida with my two young boys and husband, and we plan on getting a few chicks in the next month. Our local feed store has a few, as well as a "resident expert", so we will rely a lot on them at first. We want good layers, friendly with kids, and chickens that are good in hot weather (although it has been QUITE cold the last few weeks here!)
The feed store will build us a coop for not too much money, as well as a run. We have a cat, dogs and predators around here, so it will need to be secure. We have some shade trees, and from reading on here, it seems critical to put the chickens in the shade (which we will).
Would love advice from other warm weather chicken people!
