Hello everyone,

Even though I have a bad childhood memory of being attacked by chickens when trying to get to my Grandpa's out house, I have always wanted chickens. I purchased my first chickens through mail order and they are 1 1/2 weeks old now. I say "I" they are my husband's and mine but he wasn't as thrilled in getting them as I am:)

Originally I ordered 18 chickens but later decided that would be too many so I cancelled 6 for just a total of 12. 6 Barred Rocks and 6 Amercaunas. ROOKIE mistake no. 1.... We received TWENTY ONE. Three of the warmer chicks died and we now have 18. I have no clue what the yellow ones are.

I learned about BYC through Pinterest when I was researching coops, etc.

My husband and I live on 26 acres in Texas with two stock tanks, Black Angus cattle, a horse, two miniature donkeys, 2 Great Pyrenees, 11 ducks (new also), 18 chickens, 2 French Bulldogs and 1 Tonkinese cat. He manages a Propane Company and I work for the state. Our animals are our children.

I'm excited to be here and eager to learn. Thank you for providing this forum and to all of you I hope to learn from:)

Peace,

Hi there,

and welcome to BYC!

I too can remember being attacked by the resident Leghorn rooster when I was a child at my grandparents place, collecting the hens eggs! That Leghorn seemed huge at the time and I remember my cousin and I thinking that one day he would surly catch us and eat us for dinner!!

But I suppose it was this memory as a child that kept me going to someday own my own chickens.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!
