New here and thinking about chickens!

Hi all. I'm in NW Indiana. I've been thinking about getting some chickens for a while. Recently our county changed the code and now I can get some! But I want to do a lot of learning before I even decide to get some. My biggest reason to get them is for our family to be more self sufficient. I've been looking in to breeds that would fit us as I'd like more docile neighborhood friendly girls. Can't wait to learn from all of you
