New here and to chickens, excited to join and learn more about our feathered friends!

Ok, someone else new to chickens too!šŸ˜šŸ‘ Yes I bet it’s exciting to get the first eggs!!🄚🄳 What chickens gave you those? I’m hoping to get some from our Bantam Rocks soon, don’t know how the winter affects them. The BO’s take forever to matureā€¦šŸ™„
I meant to say ā€œeffectā€ not ā€œaffectā€ā€¦šŸ˜…

They are handsome I know!🤩 We were considering keeping them but I still kind of think it’s easier for now to only have hens. I’m also worried if it would turn out to be a mean rooster with the kidsā€¦šŸ«£
We have a dozen or more roosters free ranging all of the time. We walk through them and they pay us no mind. We have one main original boy that is most protective of the girls and us. His biggest problem is being underfoot all the time.

If you handle them a lot, like, a little every day, couple times a day from the time they are chicks, they can be trained to be more docile. I had two leghorn roos that loved to be cuddled/held, but had to give them away. Almost made me cry, but I just couldn't think about it.

Leghorns. They have an undeserved bad rep. Mine are super sweet and friendly. They are so much fun and funny. Each have their own distinct personality. I hatched them myself and made sure to handle them every day so they would get used to it and not be so skittish, as they are reputed to be. They don't mind being held at all, and follow me around like little puppies, haha! Sooooo danged cuuuuuuute!!! I'm completely, madly in love with them.
Oh wow well that’s good to hear about the Leghorns!!šŸ„³šŸ‘ Yes I’ve also understood they are so good layers but so bad personalitiesā€¦šŸ˜… I’ve wanted to try some ā€˜cause of the laying abilities but been suspicious otherwise. I’ve also heard they can be sweet at first and later turn skittish… But it paid off for you to handle them a lot and also maybe got a good strain!šŸ¤—

Oh really..lol Well good!!🄳 English is not my first language so I’m not always sure ā€˜cause of that too…
Wow, you do well considering it's not your first language. Don't worry about it though as we don't have any grammar police around here to my knowledge. ā˜ŗļø

I still try to handle them as often as I can. I always feed them their mealworms and BSFL by hand before sprinkling around for them to peck. I've got them trained to where they like to sit on my hand as I walk around with them, like real birds. šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚šŸ„°šŸ˜ They are among the best layers and fastest to do so from hatching. I didn't think it was really possible at 4 months as I've seen in my research, but now I can confirm that that is absolutely true. They really are amazing girls!
