Hello! I have never owned chickens before, but will be getting my four lovely ladies (2 cochins and 2 silkies) in early July
. I've been lurking around on this site for a couple of years, but now that I am an official future chicken owner, I decided it's officially time to join! Something that makes me a little different (well, honestly probably very different :b) from others on this site, is that I don't eat, and have no interest in collecting eggs - I just love chickens! I'm looking forward to lots of learning from, and chatting with, all of the other chicken people

Your neighbors and friends are going to love you when you start giving them all the eggs.

But from what I understand, a hen would naturally only lay around 12 eggs per year if she was allowed to keep a fertilized clutch and hatch them. But seeing as there will be no baby chicks.... I do have a lot of questions that I can't seem to find answers to about chicken behavior and health as it pertains to the egg laying cycle (specifically with non fertilized eggs) so I am planning to make a whole separate thread for that. Looking forward to learning and doing what's best for my chickens!
