New here, but not to chickens

Hi all, I have had all types of fowl, off and on, over the last 30 years. We do not currently have chickens but my 7 year old is showing a strong interest in keeping chickens so I decided to do some refresher research before we dive in this spring! He is currently contemplating starting with speckled sussex or salmon faverolles. He's excited to raise up some friendly and fun chickens

Hi!
Both of those breeds can be friendly and I've had them both in the past. Faverolles get picked on by other breeds so you may want to keep that in mind if you want a mixed flock.
