I stumbled upon this cute little site trying to find info for when I move from Iowa to Nebraska. I have a total of 18 chickens now, 13 hens and 6 roosters.

I had to take my friend’s 3 roosters because he lives within city limits where roosters are not allowed. They quickly attacked my neighbor’s chicks and my grown woman neighbor herself. Those 3 have been in a dog crate over the summer. I will be feasting on them next week at Thanksgiving dinner.

My other 3 roosters are Mr. Green and his two sons, both 2 months old that I thought were hens until last week.

I’ll be active on here mostly asking questions about their diet, while also trying to learn about different breeds and other do’s and don’t’s about owning chickens.

Pics are: rooster jail, teenager rooster, and Mr. Green with his ladies.

Beautiful flock. You don't have to kill the roosters if you don't want to...you can create a boys only flock. I have one. They work really well. Sorry, I just love, love, love, roosters.

Thank you! The three in jail are mean. They need to go, and I need to know how they taste! It will free up space in my coop and save more feed for my hens.

I can see the proud parents of the "teenager" in the picture! (I'm assuming the white bird and the rooster are responsible...) He's a cool looking cockerel.

I know you didn't directly ask here, but as far as diet goes, Flock Raiser (or All Flock, same thing) with oyster shell on the side is pretty much a top choice for meeting the nutritional needs of layers and nonlayers as well.

Thanks for joining! Welcome to BackYard Chickens!

Here is a pic of the biological mother, the broody surrogate hen a month ago, and of course, Mr. Green.

The bio mom is my only hen with feathered feet, my babies have feathered feet. Otherwise, I would have just guessed the same as you.
