new here, new to our property, and getting new chickens, all since the new year!

Still some frost in the ground here too. Apx 2-3' in some places, others none.

Going to get some big trees pushed over tomorrow hopefully. Have the excavator loaded on the trailer, as well as a skidsteer with a grapple bucket.

I'm done with timber buyers around here too. If they want board feet they're gonna have to glue em back together! No shows and he hawing are apperently the order of business for them fellas.

that's a 48" bucket. ;)

Mosquitoes are easy. Many essential oils repel them and are safe to apply to bare skin, beneficial even!

Mosquitoes- citronella, lemon eucalyptus, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, catnip, basil, clove, thyme, lemongrass, geranium, lavender

Fleas – cedarwood, citronella, eucalyptus, tea tree oil, lemongrass, lavender, orange, pine,

Ticks – rose geranium, juniper, rosewood, thyme, grapefruit, oregano

Some studies have also shown, additional effective ingredients include: Neem Oil, Soybean Oil, Vodka, Garlic and Vanilla Extract.

I have had excellent success with Thyme oil all by itself at pulse points. I am the only one they don't bite when I use thyme. Works wonders!
All your plans sound great!! I wanted to mention the best insect repellant I have found for mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, flies, anything....CHICKENS!!!

When we 1st moved to our 3 acre lot we were pulling 5-6 ticks off us each day and being ate up by mosquitoes no matter what we sprayed, slathered, burned, they were eating us alive because we live in swamp country. We have corrected some of the swamp issues by filling in low spots, but we still have standing water in a lot of our yard. Work in progress. This is our 2nd year with chickens and they have helped immensely with the bug population

.

I also grow many herbs as OnlyOrps mentioned above. So probably they are helping also. Good luck with the new place and congrats on your new adventure!!

we've very made some headway. Apx 1/2 acre credit of stumps. Only 2 acres to go.

Yeah it gets bigger as we go lol.

But this tree is currently holding up things. It's kinda big.

Best guess is 6' across at the stump and 125' high.

Timber buyers - there are good and bad out there. The club my dad belongs to has 500 acres. In order to qualify for a cheaper "forest Management" property tax rate here in WI, they have to have a timber management plan from a certified forester. They really love the guy they hired, he is willing to go out there and walk the woods with them and answer any questions they have. He is out there on the property at least once a week when the lumberjacks are actively cutting, checking and making sure they follow the plan. He actually called my dad one day and reported that the lumberjacks had cut a huge tree that was planned to be left as a "seed tree". My dad, who happens to go there about 3 times a week, said that yeah, he noticed that. The forester said "Well, I don't think they will do that again. They are paying 2x the going rate for that stump."

A friend bought an 80 acre parcel to build his retirement home on. To set the scene, the property had a county road on the south where he built his house, and there is a town road on the other side that is not much more than a paved horse trail and pretty much never used. He had a guy stop in and ask about cutting some huge oaks and pine trees off of his property. He said No thanks, not interested in selling that timber and logging that off. The guy got a little rude about it when he was leaving. About 2 months later, my friend took a drive past his property and all the trees were gone! They had filled in the ditch and cut the fence so they could get the equipment in and proceeded to clearcut the entire area. It was a complete mess with the rutting and garbage they left.

I sure hope that your project is going well and safe.

4" of snow here today.

I kinda feel bad about the lack of chick's and posting here. We're still on track for setting up a run and coop, but had to clear some things first.

89' tall and 75' across at the canopy. Best we could measure.

Still had almost 2" of ice between the trunks.

There's gardening groups & all sorts on here so don't worry about that. Everything in it's own time. Dangerous looking job, pushing huge trees over. I shall enjoy seeing your progress from a safe distance.

here's my buddy "the ground surgeon" he's got about 10000hours in excavators. He should be the guy for the job!

oh, well, "drama" showed up! At least he can tell him how to do it.

come into view merely for the entertainment value.

and 30 second later, she's down! If a big tree falls in the woods and people are around, it definitely makes a sound!
