Hi there! Many many years ago I had two Rhode Island Reds named Honey and Ginger. They captured my heart and were my lovely garden companions. I lived in the suburbs and kept them in my fenced in back yard. Both lived happily and we never had any predator issues. Honey was always in my lap wanting attention, while Ginger was a bit more independent. I raised them both from chicks. Life was good.
Fast forward, Honey and Ginger passed away after leading blessed lives. I ended up being forced from my beautiful home after a divorce because I couldn't afford the house payment and moved into an apartment which obviously meant no pet chickens. But the time has come for me to leave apartment living behind thank goodness, because one of my best friends bought 6 acres of land and has invited me to come homestead with her!
Naturally I want chickens...lots of them. Having two yard birds that were spoiled rotten, and a flock on a 6 acre farm out in the middle of rural Texas with predators everywhere, are two different things entirely. I need to learn how to raise a happy healthy flock and keep predators from killing too many. So here I am! Teach me! I look forward to making some new friends along the way.
