Hi all,

I am new to BackYard Chickens (as a member). I am relatively new to chickens. We decided to get 4 hens from a breeder we met at a feed store that was supposedly reputable. We bought 2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 supposed Ameraucanas. 1 of each died from illness, and we bought 2 RIRs from our local feed store. The feed store was giving away "Ameraucana" roosters so we took one because I read that they will help the hens lay better and have happier hens. I think he is an Ameraucana mixed with a RIR but was looking for others imput. He is on the right in the picture, and my Ameraucana hen is on the left.. when we first got her she was all black with slight blonde feathers above the beak.. she is now turning more and more white everyday, shes also very dense like our rooster is. I really hope she is a hen, she also has no tail and all of my other hens have them. She has the tufts under her eyes as well. Can anyone tell me what she could be? thanks in advance

she looks like a hen to me and like agkuyk08 said she is likly a rumples aracauna which if I am not mistaken is what you want. I am new to the breed so I am not sure, you may have to wait a few weeks to be sure on weather she is a hen or not but I am fairly certain it is a hen. As far as the rooster I can't really tell from the picture.

Thanks all! Our house has a massive flea infestation so I could not get pictures of her today and these are a few weeks old. She is still rumpless and has bluish tinted feathers in the sunlight that roosters get. I will post up to date pictures as sook as I can :)

he looks muffed which means a mix, as araucanas are either clean faced or tufted. I say he because I have not seen a ee in the columbian pattern turn out to be a girl

Ramirezframing do you mean the black and white rumpless chick? Or the one on the right? I'm almost positive the one on the right is a rooster.. Also what do you mean by Colombian pattern? I appeciate any knowledge you can pass on! Thank you

Her name is Ninja (and I'm REALLY hoping for a her), she is my only hopefully Ameraucana, Araucana, or EE hen I have.. I say hen because our roo is 3 weeks younger than her and is bigger and taller than her..

Here she is with our roo, a rir who is 3 weeks older (far left) & rir who is same age

Here is our roo, Roger. I'm really hoping he turns our with a pea comb (Hopefully EE or Ameraucana)

We had a massive flea infestation last year when we let our out door cat come in and have kittens. Borax Work really well if you have not found something to work on the fleas. We just sprinkled borax on any carpeting and let it sit for a few hours and then vacuumed it up.

Thanks JellyBellyx6! Our problem is that we have all hard wood floors so a lot of flea killer out there does not work. We have bombed the house 2 times and spread diatomaceous earth everywhere to kill fleas and still nothing. Orkin is here now.. Going on the 8th night away from home& out chickens!
