Hello Fellow Chicken Lovers!

My husband and I (and 2 daughters) are new to the chicken game. We inherited 5 Buff Orpington's from our neighbor who no longer wanted them. They were hatched in April, and have not yet started laying. We are in the process of transitioning them to our property while my husband is building the coop. Currently, we are not sure where they are spending their nights, but they are coming back every morning for their food and water.

I just wanted to say Hi, as I am sure I will have loads of questions. I will do my best to reseach previous posts before asking a question that has been asked a million times.

Wish us luck on our new endeavor!

Welcome to BYC. Lori. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds (such as Buff Orpingtons). :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your BOs.

Hope you get them penned up soon before either predators get them or they acquire bad habits like sleeping in trees etc

Well I have already made my 1st mistake. These are not buff orpingtons. ..they are actually golden comets.
We should have the coop ready by the end of this weekend!

Golden Comet is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links which are laying machines. You should get loads of large, brown eggs from those five girls. :o)
