Hatching
Hi all,
I'm a backyard chicken owner from Maine who found her way here googling questions about my chickens. It seems like this is the place to be for all of my chicken needs.
We currently have 5 girls in our mini flock. My younger daughter started with Elsa (Plymouth) and Anna (Black sex link) in a small coop she got for Christmas. We had those two girls for 2 years and decided to get a bigger coop and add in some new girls.
My younger son wanted 2 chickens of his own, in addition to 2 new ones for DD2. We ended up with Rapunzel, Ariel, Chewbacca (ISA Browns) and Darth Maul (Buff Orpington). We kept them in quarantine so as not to make our older girls sick.
Unfortunately, shortly after the babies arrived, Elsa died suddenly. We are thinking possibly a heart attack because we could find no other cause. She was an odd girl from the beginning and had never laid an egg even though she was almost 3 years old. We confirmed this after her death because we only ever got one egg per day and we are still getting one a day from Anna. The babies won't lay for another month or two.
All 5 girls have been introduced and have finally started getting along. Anna was devastated and confused right after her sister died and at least now she's at least distracted by showing the babies who's in charge.
I'm excited to continue learning and be part of this chicken community!!
