Hi. I'm new here, but not really new to raising chickens. Really looking forward to this group. At this time I am building back up my chicken population and have 9 new chicks and 2 turkeys all going on their 3rd week. I had one really bad night when a predator got into the coop. Left me only 3 hens and the rooster. It was barely dark when it happened, and I hadn't gotten to close the coop up. I was devastated. Usually I never had to worry untill the middle of the night. Sticking the great pyrenees in the coop tonight. Anyway, I had 10 chicks, but one died. I pulled out a chunk of poop out of the her poor little butt when i got her home, but I think she had gone too long. One of the turkeys was trying to die when she got home, but after time under my shirt she picked right up and although she is way smaller than the other turkey she came home with, she is a little spitfire. I think shes female, and I'm guessing the other is a Tom.
My chickens are purely for the joy of having them and the eggs. We have some old chickens. I think the rooster is around 13.
I look forward to spending time and sharing on this site.

Sorry to hear about the losses from a predator, that must have been very rough to go through.

What breed of chicks did you get? I hope the chicks and the turkeys do well for you!
