My name is Nikki. I do not have chickens yet. I just got the ok to get them where I live. however, I figured I had better learn more on how to properly take care of them. I intend on owning a market farm and eggs are on the list of items in demand here. Any information or help would be lovely. I don't want to cause harm to my chickens or eggs because I don't know what I'm doing.

Welcome! What an exciting new adventure you are embarking on! I have found the best way to learn is to get started the best you can with the basics (what kind of housing/feeding/watering setup would be best for you, what are the breeds you want to start with, how many do you need, and do you want to go through a smaller breeder or larger commercial hatchery. I would also take into account how you will brood your chicks, if you start with chicks, what time of year is best in order to safely transition them to a coop, and choose a good starter feed.

Getting started can feel a bit overwhelming, but as you begin, you will have questions, you will encounter some hiccups, and you will learn and grow tremendously through experience and your own trial and error. Im sure you will do great!

Do you have your heart set on any certain breed(s)? Oh the FUN you will have!
