Hello! My name is Caitlin. I am new to chickens, hens and live in a small city that is country like.

we currently realized that one of our four hens - is not a hen :( so we are super bummed... and now have a dilemma on our hands. We can’t have roosters.... and it’s my daughter chick that she picked... so now she wants a new Hen. How do I get a new hen... and how to I rehome a rooster?!

mom looking for lots of advice and help through this form!

thank you,

caitlin

Caitlin, you can try putting up an ad at a feed store announcing your roo, seeking a new home. Sadly there are many, many roosters looking for homes- and if they are offered for free, people will take them just to get a free meal.

Welcome to BYC,- BYC has a section for free animals for rehoming. You might list your roo there but, again if he isn't a popular breed, etc. he'll probably end up on the table.

Thank you all!!!
We’re still looking into it - definitely didn’t plan on having a rooster. He’s such a friendly sweet guy too!!
Our neighbor has dogs that constantly bark - so my husband is almost willing to keep him. He doesn’t sound off often at all, not even daily, and it’s at like 9 am, not 5-6 am...

we know we can’t have Roosters in the city we live in though. So .... we are seeing our options.
