Silkies are pretty quiet for the most part. The roosters can crow nearly as loud as a regular rooster, but most aren't quite that loud, and I have one that's never crowed and he's nearing a year old. The hens will "sing" on rare occasions, but so seldom do they do that, that if I"m outside I go in to see what's going on. Otherwise, they are quiet when they free range around the yard. For over 30 years, we have had chickens. I am between chickens BC. I try different chicken breeds. The last ones, speckled sussex, were noisy. I live in the suburbs. Not a good mix. I'll be getting chicks in the spring. Thinking of getting Plymouth Barred Rocks. however, we are in a hot summer climate. Any quieter breed suggestions?
