You wanted chickens?
We don’t choose chickens, rather they choose us. Kinda like cats, only with feathers.

Nice to have you here with us! I too am a new chicken owner. You have landed at a great space. This site is full of friendly, helpful chicken folks. Welcome!Hello, I am completely new to chickens, or birds in general. I currently have 4 adult hens, 3 Rhode Islands (I think) and 1 Sapphire Gem (I think) and 2 3week old chicks (sapphire gem and a red star). The 4 adults I recieved from a co-worker who was looking to rehome her flock and my husband and i had been talking about chickens for a bit at this point. This is the reason why I'm not entirely sure what breeds the older ones are because they didn't. 2 Rhode Islands are about 3 years and the other 2 are about a year. We wanted chickens for egg production as well as pest control and mild fertilizer, and my husband is a bird person, so he's happy with them either way. We have 5 children and 2 cats outside of the chickens and we both work retail. My hobbies are gardening, video games and procrastination because when I get home from work, the last thing I want to do is more work! I came to this website during my deepdive into the internet researching backyard chickens and am so far impressed with the amount of knowledge I have found here.
